The cycle track / footpath crosses the River Lune over a disused railway bridge, at the easterly end of the 'Crook of Lune' - the bends in the river look like a shepherd's crook. This is the view from the bridge. On a clearer day, the flat topped mountain Ingleborough, North Yorkshire, can be seen in the distance. The adjacent road bridge is just to the west. There is a small car park about 100 yards / metres to the northerly side of the road bridge, round a tricky bend. The Crook is a popular beauty spot.
If you continue, from the old railway bridge along the cycle track into the village of Caton; turning right off the path onto a tarmac road with little car park, you will find in 75 yards / metres (turning left) a Post Office, general store & news-agents; a pub with food (which is straight across the road opposite the Post Office), and a tea room (turn right towards Lancaster, and it's on the right). There is also a garage.
To find the Church which, centuries ago, used to be looked after by the monks from Lancaster Priory; you would need to go straight across the junction by the Post Office, to Brookhouse - a newer name describing a later housing development. It's at least a mile. There is another good pub with food though - just before St. Paul's Church.
